Winter’s Fall

The final project will be inspired by Chinese sunset paintings of the early century. They are called “Sumie” which in Japanese can translate to “black ink” for ranging the gradation of pure shaded light and dark ink into the painted background. The paintings portray the spirituality of Zen Buddhism that concentrates both simplicity and clarity in its art form. Its value was to demonstrate strict discipline and countless years of reflection towards the intensity they created in themselves to form their own spiritual guidance. The Monks used meditation to start off their painting by requiring a calm but yet, sophisticated manner of becoming fearless when you use the brush stroke carefully. These spiritual artists have been using this art form for 2000 years in mastering ink and paint that when put together, they make a powerful composure that releases the pain and energy within the soul. I wanted to choose this final assignment, as a way to release my stress from this semester and onward by embodying my spirit to become one with my soul. This message can move many (including myself), to psychologically use spirituality and nature as a art for the soul and the body. This will allow us to free the constant repetition that yet lingers with the art form.
